she’s done it again…

anyone who knows me at all is quite aware that i just may be a complete and total “fabric/color/pattern ho” - yes, that’s the terminology. and one of my favorite designers is amy butler…*sigh* - her fabric is absolutely exquisite and her studio…well, i’m completely and totally in awe. she is, hands-down, my design hero. a fabric, stationary, gift wrap and now tabletop designer, all rolled into one.

she’s just released her fall line of fabric and i thought to myself, “wow, what a great compliment to avocado jezebel jewelry!” therefore, i think i’m going to have to bust out the sewing machine and start making some tops and aprons. i especially like this little halter top - the pattern is going to be for sale in november. i’ll keep you posted on my progress. happy saturday!

Somewhere over the rainbow…

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve had a few rainbow shows here in Boulder, and it’s been absolutely spectacular! So, I just wanted to share since last week it was such a great way to start the day…a walk with the doggies and Paul, complimented by a double rainbow! Enjoy.

Mashed Potatoes & Gravy turns 12!

This is Elwood, aka “Mashed Potatoes & Gravy”. He’s a crazy Jekyl & Hyde American Bulldog and well, it just doesn’t get much better than that. I love this dog like a fat kid loves cake and he celebrated his 12th birthday on Monday. We got him a liver loaf (birthday cake) with cookie candles and promptly after this picture was taken, he put the entire loaf in his mouth and fell sideways off the ottoman. I’ve never seen him so blissed out in his entire life. Happy Birthday Elwood Beauxregard! Love, momma, daddy & veruca louise

“Oh about 50-100 hours…”

So, I haven’t really knitted in about a year. You’d think that after moving to Colorado where it snows quite frequently, that I’d find some time to sit down and knit. This was not the case as this year, I decided instead, to make necklaces. And well, you can see where that went…However, now and again, I’ll run across a knitted piece that completely blows my mind. Thank you to Grace over at design*sponge for this one. Oh, and if I haven’t mentioned it before, bikes have a special place in our hearts and household so you can see why I was drawn to this piece. Christina Oh is a designerista as well as a “miniature knitter” of sorts. The bicycle took 50-100 hours and measures only 5″x7″ - translation, she was basically knitting with sewing needles and thread. Check out the Q&A about her process here. Completely mind-boggling…and inspirational.

I’m so so so excited to announce that my site has officially launched! It has been such a labor of love for the last couple of months and I really couldn’t have done it without a few people in particular…so first and foremost a big thank you to all the ladies who’ve gone before me or currently surround me with their humor, zest for life, moxy and pizazz! You inspired me to create something to call my own. So thanks for being such great characters and I’ll try my best to “do ya proud.”

I’d also like to give a shout out to Hank at Invisible Window for an amazing job on the web development of the Avocado Jezebel site and to Phillip at New Growth Media for all the cool photography on the about, contact and services pages (as well as teaching me a thing or two about lighting and photography). And thank you to my Peazy for being so supportive all the time. I heart you and our babies.

And thank you to everyone…family, friends, and any of you who have somehow found your way to this site! Your encouragement has been priceless!

came across these beauties yesterday at the ol’ nordstrom rack. i cannot even explain to you my sheer unadulterated glee as i slipped them on my feet. not only do they include my “signature colors”, but they are comfy as all get out and make for some sweet biking shoes as well…very grippy on the bottoms. i heart vans. they totally remind me of my childhood as both of my brothers rocked the black and white checkerboard slip ons…and whaddya know, they had pink and black ones yesterday as well…i just might have to go back and get them. hope you’re all having a super great memorial day weekend. it’s raining in boulder - very odd since this feat of mother nature pretty much never happens. oh well, c’est la vie.
